Cinque Terre is one of the most pristine and largest Mediterranean areas of Liguria, due mainly to historical reasons and Portofino geomorphological which prevented excessive housing development and construction of major roadways (which instead are internally Val Vara). Human activities, especially viticulture, have helped create a unique landscape in which development of the typical stone walls is so extensive as that of the famous Great Wall of China. All this combined with the characteristics of a crystal clear sea, architecturally interesting, with a network of paths between the richest and most enviable in the Mediterranean, Porto Venere the Cinque Terre has made an increasingly sought after by Italian and foreign tourists. This is not the result of a successful promotional campaign as a spontaneous recognition of a place, its beauty, the enjoyment one gets from staying in or visiting.
